eBay Bidders Sane or Stupid?

I discovered a highly controversial post over at Marginal Revolution based on the notion that eBay-bidders would prefer a $6 item with $5 shipping over a $10 item with free shipping.

Frankly I don’t know whether these eBay bidders are sane or stupid?

Personally, I hate spending any money on the postage/shipping factor but that’s just part and parcel of the eBay game.

One thing is for sure … I won’t buy from ebay sellers who obviously are making nice profit out the shipping costs. I’m not stupid and don’t expect to be treated like one.

See what you think? It’s certainly not my recommended way to make money on eBay.

How about bidders who bid up an item 3-5 days before auction end? Now that is stupid…..bid in the last few minutes….ebay used to be a deal…deals are harder to come by with amatuer idiots….and ebay costs are getting prohibitive…ebay has seen its better days…..

I agree about bidding up the price .. it is most frustrating for us more seasoned eBayers looking for a bargain.

I remember the excitement and adrenalin buzz I felt bidding on items when I first discovered eBay years ago, so I understand the ‘less experienced’ method.

However, I now love the thrill & buzz of the last 5 second bid (thanks of course to a fast ADSL speed).

eBay is constantly changing tho’ which is a good thing. There is always something new to uncover & discover and although the sheer amount of bargains aren’t so much available any more, there are still good bargains to be found with misspelled items, wrong categories & seller inexperience.

The most exciting thing about eBay today is the phenomenal amount of traffic it receives. My aim these days is not so much selling anymore but leveraging that traffic and diverting it to my various websites for backend sales & future sales which is far more profitable.

I owe it all to Jim Cockrum’s Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay.

Although I do miss a good bargain!

Actualy, the REAL IDIOTIC ebay shoppers are those who bid/pay MORE for used items than what they are BRAND NEW IN RETAIL STORES!!!

BTW, bidding at the “last moment” is in no way “genious” or whatever… Not if you already know how much you’re willing to spend and stick to it.

Maybe if you’re a gambling addict who keeps going over your own limit, then that is a sound tactic.

Brett, I couldn’t agree more. It’s both laughable as a watcher and frustrating as a potential buyer when eBay shoppers go bid crazy and pay over retail prices.

Although I do understand that some buyers are prepared to pay extra because they can’t get the item in their locality.

And you’re right, bidding in the last moment is not an ingenious way but an experienced way. I set a price in my head and rather than drive the price up by bidding, I wait till the last moment and bid my maximum amount that I was willing to spend. One bid, one short moment and no overspending.
