A Real Internet Business That Won’t Die Out

I dare you to take a look around the internet today. Look at the hottest products being sold. The highest priced, the fanciest package and the most exclusive memberships.

It’d be impossible for me to guess which products you thought about, but out of those products I’m willing to wager that most of them are not going to be around in 12 months time. They’re focused on the here and now and quick cash in the pocket.

Now there’s nothing wrong with any of that. The nature of business is to create products that people want and sell it to them at a decent profit. But the current trend is not the best way to build a business that will last.

You can and should have a stable of diverse products, but in every online business you need to have automated, cash producing sites that sell month after month without any surprises.
It seems like the brightest people on the planet lose all common sense when they get bitten by the ‘internet bug’. They throw all rational out the window and start chasing after quick riches and huge turnovers.

It puzzles me as to why people are willing to resign themselves to working even harder than they ever would at a 9 to 5 job just to launch a product or service that will be outdated in 12 months and then they’ll have to start all over from scratch.

So what’s the solution?

Internet businesses built on selling keyword lists and AdSense strategies are excellent business resources but their shelf life is by their very nature doomed to be short lived.

But there are a few marketers that understand that the strength of their business is not based upon the zeros they bring in today, but rather upon the businesses they build upon timeless commodities.

Products relating to food, shelter, clothing and health will never be forgotten trends that disappear when the next big thing comes along. They are “evergreen” topics and the world will never have enough of them.

Write on any of these topics and customers will come looking for you.
If you’ve been cranking out products based on fads then you’re working too hard. In 6 months you’ll have to update your entire product line or start from scratch to catch the next wave when the next trend hits.

Instead of chasing the crowd trying to make a sale of your new gizmo, why not build a real business that will attract customers day-in-and-day-out, month-in-and-month-out, year-in-and-year-out for the rest of your life?

It might not be glamorous or fashionable, but anyone can easily start building a lasting internet business with the old, unassuming ebook. Forget the video hype for a minute. Forget the promise of ‘one-click’ software fortunes. Just whack yourself over the head with plain old common sense.

For well over 2,000 years books (whether in scroll packaging or electronic format) have always been the preferred method of referencing information on a chosen topic. Even if you’re searching on the internet, your primary results appear in the form of written text in some form of document (HTML, php, PDF…etc)

Combine that knowledge with the fact that there are many topics that will always be best sellers and you’ve instantly put yourself ahead of the game. Relationships, health, mind power, art, music, improved memory, speed reading…the list goes on and on of topics that you could easily research and create your own unique work on the subject.

(If you’ve got some spare cash, you could even hire a ghostwriter to write one for you.)
Take that work, package it as a simple ebook, acquire a few testimonials from a few willing readers, put up a website, plug in a payment processor and you now have a real business that will be around for many years or even decades.

And don’t sell it too cheaply. Pack it full of solid information and give it a price tag that reflects your confidence in the information. I’ve proven it time-and-time again that you’ll see more when you increase your prices.

If popular formats change, simply reprint the book in the more acceptable format of the day and keep right on selling. Or just drop the internet entirely if things get too fickle and just sell your little book offline through direct mail.

The humble book (or ebook) offers the single greatest opportunity for anyone to build their own personal fortune. It’s rare that you’ll make a million in your first year with your new ebook, but the longevity and reliability of income from these kinds of books will give you the leverage you need to build a business that can last a lifetime.
